Eros and Psyche Statue
The story of Eros and Psyche is a fascinating and intricate Greek love story.
Psyche was one of three daughters, and one that was considered the most beautiful. Psyche was said to be so beautiful that Aphrodite became jealous - enter Eros. The son of Aphrodite was instructed to have Psyche fall in love with the most 'undesirable'. Some stories say that when setting out to do so Eros poked himself with his own arrow and fell in love, while others say that Psyche was simply that magnetic. Eros and Psyche came together and Psyche became pregnant. During this period Psyche had not seen the face of Eros, and with the encouragement of her sisters she set out to do so, but some say she poked herself with Eros arrows and fell even more deeply in love. Upset by Psyches actions Eros fled, and was imprisoned by Aphrodite. Psyche asked for Aphrodites help, and this is when Psyche was put through a series of near impossible tests, the final one being that she secured a "day of beauty" from Persephone. Psyche opened the box that contained the 'elixir' from Persephone before returning to Aphrodite, resulting in her falling asleep eternally. Eros escaped and searched for Psyche, and awakened her. Eros then went to Zeus and asked for his help, which resulted in Psyche becoming immortal, and the lovers remaining together.
